FEC approves ₦348.59 billion for Akwanga-Gombe road
The Federal Executive Council, FEC, yesterday, approved ₦348.59 billion for the expansion of the road linking Akwanga through Jos, Bauchi to Gombe.
FEC also approved ₦12.104 billion for ecological projects in 12 states across the country and World Bank’s $150 million credit facility in support of polio eradication in the country, especially in 12 states slightly behind in the fight against polio.
This is as the Federal Government has approved ₦17 billion for Automatic Fuel Management and Sensor System, which will help to know the actual production and consumption of oil in the country.
Briefing State House correspondents after the weekly FEC meeting presided over by Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, at the Council Chamber, Presidential Villa, Abuja, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr Babatunde Fashola, said the expansion of Akwanga/Jos/Bauchi/Gombe road would cover 420.6 kilometres and would be completed in 48 months.
He said: “FEC approved ₦348.594 billion contract for the construction of 420.6 kilometres Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe road. The project scope is the expansion of the current two-lane highway into a dual carriage way.
“What is significant about it is that it completes the integration of the north central with the outh east and the north east.
Also briefing, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, said FEC approved ₦12.104 billion for ecological projects in 12 states of Anambra, Lagos, Oyo, Akwa Ibom, Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Jigawa, Kaduna, Plateau and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
Similarly, Minister of Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, told journalists that FEC approved two memoranda from his ministry for Automatic Fuel Management and Sensor System to monitor the quantity of oil production and consumption in the country and ₦42 billion, which is contract sum for revision of construction for Nigeria Content Development Management Board.
