There is need for ISPs to consider ‘rolling over’ customer’s unused data – NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, has said that it is worried over the inability of internet users to utilize their leftover data after expiration date.

The Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Danbatta, who spoke during the NCC special day in the ongoing 2017 Port Harcourt International Trade Fair, noted that it was bad for internet users to lose their remaining data at expiry date, adding that there was need for the internet providers to begin to rollover data balances.

Danbatta, who was represented by Mr. Bashir Idris, Head of Projects, NCC, said that the protection of customers was one of the 8-point agenda of the Commission, adding that the move, if achieved, will add value to the consumers of telecommunications services.

Danbatta stated: “On this issue of data roll over, the Commission will soon issue a directive to the service providers to give 14 days window to the subscribers to enable them roll over their unused data, even if they do not renew on the expiration of data.

“In order words, this will stop the current practice where subscribers lose their entire unused data if they fail to renew on the data of the expiration of the current subscription.”

He called on the zonal offices of NCC to take the message to the grassroots through NCC conversation channel, noting that service consumers should be given the attention of resolving their problems.
