South Africa’s CPI quickens to 5.1 percent year/year in September
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – South Africa’s headline consumer inflation quickened to 5.1 percent year-on-year in September from 4.8 percent in August, data from Statistics South Africa showed on Wednesday.
Economists polled by Reuters had forecast a 4.9 percent year-on-year inflation print.
On a month-on-month basis, inflation increased to 0.5 percent in September from 0.1 percent in August.
Core inflation, which excludes the prices of food, non-alcoholic beverages, petrol and energy was unchanged at 4.6 percent year-on-year in September, while on a month-on-month basis inflation rose to 0.4 percent from 0.1 percent previously.
