Igbo group denies Biafra Agitation

The Igbo Re-awakening Forum, a socio-cultural organisation, on Tuesday in Awka rejected political restructuring that could lead to the break-up of the country.

The Chairman of the forum in Anambra, Chief Nduka Aguofia, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka that the group would never support any suggestion or measure targeted at restructuring Nigeria.

Aguofia said that only a united Nigeria would continue to ensure Nigeria’s economic and political dominance in the African continent.

“We always believe in the unity of Nigeria; a united Nigeria will make us the powerhouse of Africa,’’ he said.

Aguofia, however, stated that the group was in support agitation for the return to regional administration where the various regions of the country were quasi-independent and allowed to develop at their own pace.

According to him, the socio-economic and political structure of Nigeria, as presently constituted, is not bringing out the best from the various components.

He said that the Igbos faced many challenges, including cultural and value systems, and urged that something should be done to address it.

“We have what it takes to progress in Nigeria project, and get back to the main stream of Nigerian politics because we are a law-abiding race,’’ Aguofia said.

He urged the National Assembly to ensure equity and equality of all the ethnic groups for the continued progress of the country.

Aguofia also urged state governors in the South-East to collaborate and develop the economy of the area in the interest of unemployed youths.
