Fans of singer Adekunle Kosoko, popularly known as Adekunle Gold on Wednesday expressed missed reaction on his choice of music beats. The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the musician sings “Highlife” mixed with a mid-tempo pop twist.
The fans, who spoke with NAN in separate interviews in Abuja, said the artist’s songs were entertaining and stimulate his fans to be on their feet whenever they were played.
Some of the fans, however, expressed displeasure at his choice of music beats, adding that they were mono beat like and needed to be developed.
Chika Ogugua, an upcoming musician said that Gold’s line of lyrics were interesting. She said that she had always enjoyed listening to the artist’s songs, adding that it was never a dull moment.
She, however, added that it was important artists discovered their passion for music, as without which they won’t be able to sustain entertaining their fans.
According to her, singing comes as a talent and having passion for the art.
Bayo Fortune, a student of University of Abuja said that the artist had a certain theme of songs which centred on mostly love, girls and relationship.
Fortune said his songs were shallow and lacked direction.
“His genre of music is kind of afro pop which is rarely diversifying in beats and instruments.
“Even if he decides to go into reggae, it also has the same restricted beats and sound effect.
“Then listening closely to the beats he uses, they are quite similar, just like a tweak which is same as Lucky Dube’s in the days.”
“In fact, he should think of other ways to make his songs more entertaining to his fans.”
Emmanuel Alonge, an independent Music Director in Abuja said he loves Gold’s songs, adding that he had “clean lyrical lines.’’
According to Alonge, his songs, beats are entertaining and appeals to his fans anytime.
Kingsley Abiodun, a hair stylist based in Abuja recalled that Gold initiated the graphic design of YBNL Nation logo, a local musical record label.
He said that his designing of the logo was an indication of his multi talented ability.
“Adekunle Gold designed the logo for YBNL record label and if he is able to do that, it means he is talented.
“Someone who is not talented cannot do such an art.
“I love his songs and if he continues with the pace he is going, he will win Grammy awards.”
