Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State on Thursday directed all hospitals in the state to henceforth treat accident victims and people with gunshot injuries before demanding police reports. El-Rufai said saving lives must come ahead of any report from the police.
The governor stated this shortly after the 15th Kaduna State Security Council Meeting, held at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House in Kaduna, the state capital.
The governor was quoted to have said through his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Samuel Aruwan, that there was no reason for citizens, who survived armed robbery attacks, to be left to die because of police reports.
He explained that after saving lives, hospitals and other agencies could start making inquiries on how the gunshot wounds and other injuries were sustained.
The statement read in part, “We consider it a gross abdication of responsibility if any hospital leaves injured patients unattended to because of the absence of Police reports.”
