Man imprisoned for stealing phone
A 20-year old man identified as Lucky Ogbebor has been sentenced to six-month imprisonment for stealing one Nokia X2 phone valued at N15, 000.
Ogbebor was jailed by an Egor Magistrate’s Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State.
Police Prosecutor, Sergeant Sunday Lucky, informed the court that the convict committed the offence on February 14 at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
The phone, according to Sergeant Lucky, belongs to one Imonah Samuel.
He said the offence is punishable under section 390 (9) of the criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. ll laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria 1976 as applicable in Edo.
The convict, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Esohe Ighodan, found Ogbebor guilty and sentenced him to six -month imprisonment without an option of fine.
