Cameroon to fight Boko Haram with witchcraft

Wearied by the spate of incessant attacks by Boko Haram militants against the country, the government of Cameroon is reported to have approved the use of witchcraft in fighting the war against terror.

In a sequence of tweets by Cameroonian journalist, Bisong Etahoben, Chiefs of Cameroon’s East Region had during a meeting asked President Paul Biya to grant them permission to use witchcraft in finishing off Boko Haram.

The international investigative journalist in another tweet on his handle, @ChiefBisongEta1, yesterday, said that Far North Governor Midjiyawa said that: “The head of state has demanded that an aspect of witchcraft be integrated into the fight against Boko Haram.”

Although there has not been an official communication on the directive, the Cameroonian government had last week announced a closure of most of its northern markets on the border with Nigeria over the recent attacks.

Like Nigeria, Chad and Niger, the Northern part of Cameroon has been battling the Boko Haram scourge which has led to loss of thousands of lives and displaced many more from their homes.

Midjiyawa Bakari, the governor of the far north region of Cameroon, says the decision to close markets on Cameroon’s northern border with Nigeria until further notice was taken for security reasons because the four female suicide bombers who attacked Bodo were disguised as traders and hid explosives in bags of vegetables they pretended to sell.

“The decision has been taken to close some markets in the border but people have been persisting to sell and to buy things. They should know that Boko Haram is looking for where people are gathering to do these attacks,” he said.
