Bello sworn in as Kogi governor, promises to pay Kogi workers, crush security challenges
Alhaji Yahaya Bello of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was Wednesday sworn-in as fourth executive governor of Kogi State.
The oath of office was administered on him at exactly 12noon by the Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasiru Ajanah, at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja.
On hand at the inauguration was the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, and some members of the National Executive Council of the party.
While delivering his inauguration speech at the confluence stadium, Lokoja, Kogi State. The newly inaugurated governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello has promised to pay salaries of workers in the state as soon as possible, while implementing strategies to gradually defray the arrears.
Bello also pledged that his government will be open to the contribution of everyone as it will be characterised by inclusiveness. He promised zero tolerance for corruption, echoing the words of President Muhammadu Buhari’s inaugural speech on May 29, 2015, I belong to everybody, I belong to nobody.
“There is no greater evil than corruption, and nothing champions that more than impunity,” he said.
“Corruption and impunity make sure our people repeatedly arrive at a broken future and finally bereaved of success or the promised better life.
“Let it be recorded today that future generation will not be given any reason to count this incoming administration among those who revelled in corruption and impunity. We will be different by the grace of God.”
He vowed that his administration would make all the resources belonging to Kogi State to work for the state.
“I hereby declare that the Yahaya Bello administration will have zero tolerance for corruption and impunity,” he said.
He further promised to lead the state by honest example. He also assured the people that his administration will employ technology and a multi-layered system of checks and balances to plug leakages in the state’s economy.
He noted that the rule of law is germane to the success of any administration, promising to work hand in hand with the judicial and legislative arm of the state government to deliver the best possible governance for the state.
In a brief tribute to Prince Audu Abubakar, the late flag bearer of the All Progressives Congress in the state governorship election during the speech, Bello said he will work with other stakeholders to immortalise the late governorship candidate.
He assured the people that the incoming administration is ready to work to better the lives of Kogi people.
“We have conceived a socioeconomic blueprint that we trust God will rapidly develop our state and radically empower our people,” he said.
He mentioned that health, education, state of the art security coverage, rural water scheme, farm and agricultural inputs, heavy investments in solid minerals and repositioning of Kogi State as a preferred tourist destination are in the heart of the blue print.
He said the blue print will enable everyone to monitor the development of the state as the plans unfold. He promised to meet with the commissioner of police in the state and other security stakeholders to rid the state of armed robbery and other security issues.
