Ambode tells Police: Fish out cultists, criminal gangs

LAGOS State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode yesterday directed the State Police Command to ensure that it fishes out and deal decisively with any individual or group of persons involved in cult activities and criminal gangs wherever they may be in the state.

The Governor, who also expressed worry over rising cases of cultism resulting in violent clashes in some areas of the state, said it has directed the law enforcement agencies to deal with cultists and other criminals with maximum force.

Speaking through the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde in a statement, Governor Ambode stated that it would henceforth go tough with any cult member or group, sponsors or collaborators, as well as criminal gangs disturbing the peace in the state.

He added that the state would not fold its arms and watch innocent citizens suffer unduly in the hands of unscrupulous elements.

Hence, the Governor said criminals will be treated as murderers and arsonists as the case may be, saying that government would decisively deal with anyone found engaged in cultism and criminal activities.

He reaffirmed his administration’s e commitment to improve security and protect lives and properties of the citizens, warning all criminally-minded individuals not to test the will of the government as the government will be unrelenting in applying the law on anyone that indulges in illegal dredging, street fighting or anyone found threatening the safety and peaceful co-existence of Lagos residents.

Governor Ambode implored parents and guardians to keep watchful eyes on their children and wards and also the people they move with in order not to run foul of the Law.
