Army Plans To Establish Base In Gombe
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has said the Army is planning to establish a military unit at Ashaka, Gombe State.
Buratai, who spoke in Gombe when he visited Governor Ibrahim Dankwambo, said the move to establish the base was part of measures to check incursion by insurgents.
He said the relationship between the military and civilians was cordial, adding that it should be maintained.
The Army chief said he would visit troops in Biu, Buni Yadi and other places in the Northeast to celebrate Christmas with them.
Dankwambo hailed the military for ensuring that the state remained peaceful.
He said the government had approved a land with Certificate of Occupancy for the building of the military unit.
The governor noted that his administration would key into programmes initiated by the military to safeguard life and property.
Dankwambo advised the people to support the military and remain law-abiding.
Buratai said: “I assure you that we will key into any programme that has been adopted by your administration.
“I urge people to be vigilant and careful while welcoming visitors.”
The governor praised the efforts of the Army chief in ensuring that insurgency was curbed in the Northeast.
