The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has slammed the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, for allegedly using the state’s newly bought helicopters for personal use.

The PDP also said Ambode’s recent comment in which he scored Lagosians low in morals was the height of ingratitude to the people for their support in the governorship election.

In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson for the PDP in the state, Gani Taofik, the party said the governor had shown an “unprecedented commitment, gratitude and servitude to his godfather against the general interest of Lagosians.”

The PDP added,

“We thus conclude that Lagosians have no place in the heart of the governor except that which coincides with the interest of the governor’s godfather. It will be recalled that at a recent health screening in Lagos, the governor scored Lagosians low in morals and attitudes.

“It is our take that the governor’s conclusion is an insult and blackmail. He should rather appreciate Lagosians who have indulged the ineptitude, exploitation and dehumanising policies of the state government; a practice which has become the label of the All Progressives Congress in the state and which Governor Ambode is now continuing. He should apologise to Lagosians.”

While describing the governor’s assessment of Lagosians as very uncharitable and misdirected, the PDP said residents of the state are known to be persevering and supporters of good government policies.

The PDP also described the use of the newly bought police helicopter by the APC leaders to a social function at Ile-Ife as “the height of irresponsibility from any government with sincerity of purpose.”

The two helicopters and some vehicles and other equipment were purportedly bought to improve security in the state.

It added, “But just as the state is experiencing robbery attacks and terrible gridlock at various areas, the helicopter meant to curb such vices was deployed to take the APC national leaders to a social function. We also hear that many of the newly bought security vehicles are attached to APC chieftains and their families.

“Indeed Governor Ambode has placed the interest of his party’s chieftains above the general security of the state.”
