The Minister of Transportation, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, has asked for the records of all the contracts that have been awarded since the establishment of the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency.
He said this during a familiarisation tour of the agency, the Nigeria Ports Authority and the Nigeria Shippers’ Council in Lagos on Monday.
Amaechi also expressed disappointment with the physical state of NIMASA’s search and rescue office.
He said,
“I have asked the Director of Finance for the records of all the contracts awarded since the inception of NIMASA, the contractors’ identities and what stages the various contracts are at. I have also asked for records of all the revenues generated, what NIMASA remitted to the Federal Government, a list of all its employees and their roles in the agency.
“I look at your resource centre; it is dirty and unkempt. One wonders where all the billions of naira spent by NIMASA went.”
Amaechi also criticised the inadequacies of the search and rescue facilities, saying, “I can’t see any search and rescue equipment. Perhaps it is kept on the water.”
Earlier, the minister had visited the headquarters of the NPA, where he met with the management team.
He was received by the Managing Director of the NPA, Mallam Habib Abdullahi, who expressed his pleasure at the visit.
