UBA GMD Seeks Investment Education For Youths

Group Managing Director of the United Bank for Africa, UBA, Mr. Philip Oduosa, has advised that Nigerian youths be equipped with investment education as the way to take the country out of the woods.
Oduoza, who stated this during the award ceremony of the bank’s fifth edition of the ban‎k’s annual essay competition held at the headquarters, of the bank said the introduction of the information, communication technology (ICT), has not only positively affected the writing culture in students but also their character.
He said the bank’s choice of education as one of its core corporate social responsibilities through the UBA Foundation, was borne out of the of the bank’s vision that without investment in education, no nation can achieve greatness.

“The major objective of this initiative is to redirect our young senior secondary school students in the way they think and write ‎and cultivate in them the habit of writing standard English. The panel of assessors include four professors of English from different universities across the nation,” Oduoza stated.
Meanwhile, out of the 3,256 entries received across the nation, the Foundation’s Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Ijeoma Aso, said 12 finalists were drawn based on the qualities of their writings.
She noted, “we‎ invited the best 12 to write another essay on a different topic at the head office and the result of this is what will be revealed by our panel of assessors today.”
Out of the 12, 15-year-old Emediong Uko and SS3 student of British Nigerian Academy, Abuja was adjudged the best, while Enonuyi Starish of The Lagoon School, Lagos emerged the first runner-up. Eze Ugochinyere Golden was second runner-up.
They were reward with N1 million, N750,000 and N500,000 in education grants to any university in Africa.
