Over One Million Use Power Illegally in Kano – Kedco

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has said that over one million consumers of power in Kano are illegal users which make the Company to suffer huge loses.
Most of those who steal power in Kano according to the distribution company are mainly Peoples from areas controlled by some criminals calls NEPA 2.
Speaking, Thursday in Kano while having Media parley, the Managing Director of the Company, Jamil Gwmana, said out of the 370,000 Customers only 1300 pay their Bills monthly and even those are mainly Industrial Customers.
He noted that because of the huge challenges they face if lack of manpower to cover all the areas under the KEDCO plus the problems of NEPA 2 who operate illegally they are taking drastic measures to tackle it.
Jamil Gwamna, hinted that they are employing 10,000 new Workers to compliment those on ground this is in addition to the 50 NYSC members they accommodated this year.
The Managing Director, disclosed that today the Company is generating only 1.2 Billion as revenue
where as they paid 2.1Billion Naira to get Power, this apart from the Salary package of 400 Million Naira and other services.
He said they came at a time when of wackiness In terms of services with Peoples having mentality of looking at PHCN as the most corrupt place.
Therefore, he explained that they have a huge image to correct, and also want to improve on Revenue, to have Customer Intimacy and improve on work environment.
Jamil Gwamna noted that as profit making company today they strive to deliver good services and get more money to pay dividends.
