Nigeria’s Odujinrin describes ‘flying around the world’, as dream come true

Nigeria’s, Ademilola Odujinrin, has become the first African to fly solo round the world in a journey that lasted for nine months and made in a single engine Cirrus SR22 aircraft.

Odujinrin flew into 25 countries in America, Europe, Africa and Asia, and ended the journey in Washington DC, United States, where he took off from.

According to him, he embarked on the 300-hour journey with the aim of putting the African continent on the global map of achievers.

Odujinrin said in Lagos on Thursday, “I had the dream to change the African narrative that anyone can do anything he puts his mind to. More people have used rockets to fly into space than fly around the world in a small plane; I wanted to see a Nigerian on that list.

“The journey began in June 2016 at Washington DC, USA where it was launched by the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, who blessed the voyage and described Nigeria as a fortunate country with great people capable of changing Africa for better.”

The project tagged, ‘Transcend: One man, one plane, one world’, he said was sponsored by the Tolaram Group, Translynx Nigeria Limited and Air Djibouti, as well as other companies and individuals.

“The project has been a dream come true as the aim was to reshape the perception of Nigeria through great achievements that defy expectation. I fell in love with aviation at an early age and became a commercial pilot in 2008,” Odujinrin added.
