Kingston launches world’s highest capacity USB flash drive

Storage product maker Kingston Digital launched the world’s first USB flash drive with 2TB storage space at a pre-CES 2017 event. Named DataTraveler Ultimate Generation Terabyte, the flash drive comes with USB 3.1 Gen 1 support.

According to the company, with this users will be able to store massive data including up to 70 hours of 4K video. The flash drive is made of zinc-alloy metal casing for shock resistance.

Kingston added that the flash drive will ship in February and will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacities. Backed by a 5-year warranty, and free technical support, the device measures 72×26.94x21mm and is compatible with Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 (SP1), Mac OS v.10.9.x+, Linux v.2.6.x+, and Chrome OS.

“At Kingston, we push the limits of what’s possible,” said Jean Wong, Flash business manager. “With the DataTraveler Ultimate GT, we empower users to increase their data storage mobility in a highly manageable form factor. This is a terrific follow up to our 1TB drive released in 2013 and by doubling the capacity, users can store and carry even larger amounts of data easily.”

On a related note, Kingston’s competitor Sandisk had in September last year launched a wireless mobile flash drive, SanDisk Connect Wireless Stick in India.

As per the company, the new drive enables easy sharing, transferring and accessing of photos and videos between mobile devices and computers.

The device features a higher storage capacity of up to 128GB, a new app, and a compact design. It works with smartphones, tablets and computers as well. The drive allows users to wirelessly access media or transfer large files; save and share photos, and videos; or stream HD videos and music to and from mobile devices – up to three at a time.
