Osun Council Of Obas Threatens To Shun Ooni’s Coronation

There were indications on Thursday that the Osun State Council of Obas threatened to boycott the presentation of Staff of Office to the new Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi Adeyeye slated for Monday if it is not invited officially.

The acting Chairman of the Council, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran who made this known at the monarchs meeting in Osogbo, expressed reservations on why the programme invitation was yet to be given to the council.

According to him,” We are not baby neither are we kids. If we are not invited, we will remain where we are unmoved.”

“If we are invited, we will attend and if not, we will not be in attendance.unless the council receive formal invitation letter from the central planning committee of the event, they may not attend.”

“If we are invited with invitation card or letter, we will go there after consulting with the governor. As at the time we concluded the meeting of the council on thursday, We dontjust go where we are not invited.”

Oba Aromolaran who maintained that, traditional rulers in the state ought to have been carried along in the scheme of things concerning the presentation of Staff of Office to the new Ooni, frowned at the development he expressed displeasure to.
Oba Aromolaran added that:”I have been acting chairman of the council even when late ooni of Ife, oba Okunade sijuwade was alive. I usually presided over meetings then.”

He however maintained that all traditional rulers in the state have adopted him as the substantive chairman of the council after the Ataoja of osogbo, Oba jimoh Olaonipekun nominated him as the chairman in a meeting held yesterday.

In his response, the publicity chairman of the Ooni planning committe, Hon. Niyi Odunlade said: the central planning committee had already sent out invitations to all traditional rulers in the state.

In his words:” I can tell you authoritatively that, we have sent out invitation individually to all the monarchs in the state. We believe that, they are one in unity, but we have to treat them individually with respect and that is why we sent the invitation to them individually.”
